The publication, which claims to have had access to secret documents, says that this is part of a joint effort to gather intelligence on potential threats, such as terrorism suspects. The documents suggest that the NSA can access the sensitive data stored in these smartphones, including contact lists, text message traffic (SMS) and user's location information. However, the magazine explains that these documents do not indicate that the NSA is conducting mass surveillance of phone users (but these techniques are used to spy on certain people in particular).

Los documentos sugieren que la NSA puede acceder a los datos más sensibles guardados en estos teléfonos inteligentes, incluyendo las listas de contactos, el tráfico de mensajes de texto (SMS) y la información de ubicación del usuario. Sin embargo, la revista aclara que los documentos no indican que la NSA este llevando a cabo una vigilancia masiva de usuarios de teléfonos (sino que estas técnicas se usan para espiar a personas en concreto).

Part of me has always thought of mobile phones particularly ones with gps capabilities can be used as a kind of electronic tagging device. But I suppose if you've nothing to hide you've no problem (just don't store bank details on them)
ReplyDeleteYep,I reckon that information privacy went out the window many years ago (if there ever was such a thing). And now your location can be determined, next thing (dare I mention it) everyone electronically chipped at birth (and I dont mean cut into small strips ) :D
